Chernobyl-2, Duga Radar - Ukraine

The story behind the photo:
The Duga military complex situated in the closed military City of Chernobyl-2 in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, is a huge 150 meter-long, 150-meter-high radar antenna with attached and connected buildings. Inaugurated in 1976, it was part of the anti-missile defense system to intercept any missiles launched by the United States against the Soviet Union. It consisted of a complex system of antennas, which in later years became obsolete, and therefore dismantled. Demolished everywhere but not here, where it remains the only evidence of that system that worked until 1989. Today, Duga is one of the last vestiges of the Cold War.
